What is CI/CD?
Every change is automatically built and tested as soon as it's pushed, and changes that pass are ready to ship.
Shipping code used to mean a long manual checklist and a scary release day. CI/CD turns that into something that happens many times a day.
What it is
CI, continuous integration, means every change is automatically built and tested as soon as it's pushed. CD, continuous delivery or deployment, means changes that pass are automatically ready to release, or shipped straight to production.
How it works
A developer pushes a commit. A pipeline wakes up: it installs dependencies, runs the tests, checks the code and builds the app. If anything fails, the team hears about it within minutes. If it all passes, it deploys.
Why it matters
Bugs get caught while the change is small and fresh, and releasing becomes boring, which is exactly what you want.
